Duchess’ Community High School Alnwick

Members of the Percy family have taken a keen interest in the Alnwick schools for centuries. The Duchess’ community High school has origins dating back to 1808 when Duchess Julia founded a school for 20 local girls. In more recent time Northumberland Estates has been influential in the development of new purpose built premises for the High School, currently under construction, by donating a 20 acre site for the new school with a value in excess of £8 million. A further 10 acres has also been provided for playing fields and to create a new sports club for the town.

St. Clouds State University

Alnwick Castle has been a campus branch for students of St. Cloud State University, Minnesota in the USA for over 30 years. Their time in Alnwick is an integral part of their International Study Programme and allows the student to experience different cultures and customs while gaining credits towards their degrees. During their stay in Alnwick, students from the University live and study at Alnwick Castle, while also spending time with local families. As a result many build lifelong links with Northumberland Estates and with the town.
