Renewable Energy       Conservation & Environment       Pathway to Net-Zero

Northumberland Estates is committed to achieving net zero emissions by actively transforming the way it manages its land, buildings, and operations.

The Estate is taking a phased approach to decarbonisation, focusing on cost-effective, high-impact measures. This includes installing solar PV where viable, improving energy efficiency across properties, and integrating renewable technologies into all new developments—ensuring sustainability is central to its long-term strategy.

Reducing carbon emissions is a shared effort across the Estate. Northumberland Estates is focusing first on areas where it has direct control over energy use and billing, allowing for the greatest immediate impact.

A key part of this approach is the ambition to install nearly 100 solar arrays across 15 industrial sites, with the potential to generate around 5MW of clean electricity. To date, around 20% of this target has already been achieved.

These initiatives not only reduce emissions but also provide tenants with access to clean energy, supporting them to lower their own environmental footprint.

Looking ahead, Northumberland Estates will continue to innovate and strengthen its pathway to net zero. Sustainable practices are being embedded across all developments, informed by ongoing monitoring of carbon-reduction performance.

Through careful planning, targeted investment in renewable technologies and a continued focus on efficiency, the Estate is making steady progress towards its long-term ambition: a fully sustainable, net zero Estate for generations to come.
