The opening of the new road to the Willowburn Park residential development marks the latest phase in this exciting new scheme in the south of Alnwick. The road runs from the entrance of the new Duchess’s Community High School to the new housing.
Named Taylor Drive after long serving Alnwick County Councillor John Taylor, the road will serve as the main access into Willowburn Park. Constructed by Northumberland County Council Highways and Neighbourhood Services the scheme was delivered within budget and ahead of programme.
Barry Spall from Northumberland Estates said, “The new road is an important milestone in progressing long term plans to improve a wide range of facilities on this side of Alnwick. Working closely with Northumberland County Council over many years, we have recently seen the relocation of the High School, and now the rest of the development plans are progressing alongside as we work together to bring much needed new facilities and opportunities to Alnwick.” The Highschool was built on land given by Northumberland Estates.
Constructed by Taylor Wimpey, the 236 new houses at Willowburn Park have been designed in a mix of styles and sizes from 2 bed through to 5 bed to meet a growing need for family friendly homes in the town. The hugely popular Weavers’ Court Extra Care housing, recently opened by Karbon Homes in conjunction with Northumberland Estates, is another aspect of the development plans bringing state of the art accommodation for the older generation to Alnwick.
