An exciting new retail development planned for North Tyneside moved a step closer this week as developers Northumberland Estates submitted more detailed plans for the scheme.

Northumberland Retail Park, which is located in the A19 corridor on a site adjacent to the Holystone roundabout and Northumberland Park Metro station, will see both food retailer Aldi and the coffee chain Costa  taking space on site.

Planning permission for this multi million £ scheme was granted last year. Work on phase one, which includes around 100,000 sq ft of retail space alongside the existing Sainsbury’s store, is due to begin shortly as site preparation work commences.

Says Colin Barnes Head of Planning and Development at Northumberland Estates “The site lies in the centre of North Tyneside’s largest growth area for housing and jobs. Directly adjacent  are new housing developments at Backworth Park and at the Rising Sun site. We are also pleased to see the start of a major residential scheme which welcomes both Cussins and Robertson Homes to the area next to Backworth Golf Club   To the south Cobalt Business Park with around 2million sq.ft of office development is one of Europe’s largest business parks. The developments are a great sign of confidence in North Tyneside with good prospects for further jobs and investment in the coming years.

“Northumberland Retail Park is ideally located and highly accessible being on a major transport interchange with buses, trains, the Metro and with excellent road links. It will provide much needed new services to the area as well as creating jobs.”
