Northumberland Estates is seeking the views of local residents and stakeholders on its proposed Phase 2 development at Wynyard Park. The new plans include the addition of retail and trade counter units designed to enhance the range of shopping options available to the local community, as well as create new employment opportunities.
Since permission was granted, demand has emerged for development on the wider site. Phase 2 of the development would therefore include new retail and commercial floorspace, which complements the site, meets the needs of residents in the surrounding area, and generates new job opportunities.
The proposed development will bring a number of key benefits, including:
- Additional Retail Space: Expanding the retail offering at Wynyard Park, providing more choice and convenience for local residents.
- Job Creation: The development is expected to generate approximately 155 full-time equivalent jobs, in addition to construction-related employment.
- Investment: A £10m investment into the local area, contributing to economic growth and community development.
- Improved Parking: Around 300 car parking spaces, including 20 accessible spaces, to support ease of access for visitors and shoppers.
The Site
The proposed Phase 2 development will be located at Wynyard Park, situated to the north of the A689 and south of Wynyard Avenue. The land to the north of the proposed site already has planning permission and is being developed for a new Sainsbury’s store, two drive-through units, and additional trade counter floorspace. This phase of development is set to be completed by Summer 2025.
The Benefits
The development of Phase 2 will not only improve the retail offerings but also ensure the continued growth of the wider Wynyard Park site, contributing to the long-term success and sustainability of the area.
